Greece to implement tourist cruise fee

 

Greece will soon impose a €20 fee on cruise passengers visiting popular islands like Santorini and Mykonos.

This move, set to begin next spring, aims to address overtourism and protect local environments.

The fee is part of broader measures to manage cruise tourism, which may include increased mooring fees and other restrictions.

Shipping companies might adjust cruise prices accordingly, potentially leading to route changes. Further effects – such as route changes – are not yet foreseeable. Smaller islands could see a rise in cruise ship visits as a result.

The Greek government will shortly announce the complete package of measures.
