German bank finances newbuildings

KfW IPEX-Bank is providing 26 million to finance Carisbrooke Shippings fleet renewal, backed by Dutch export credit insurer Atradius. The funds will support two 7,700 tdw MPP freighters built at Thecla Bodewes shipyard in the Netherlands.

Carisbrooke operates a modern fleet of multipurpose cargo vessels. The new “Labrax” series features fuel-efficient diesel-electric propulsion and an innovative bow shape for sustainability. The ships, convertible to CO2-neutral fuels, will be delivered in 2026 for European short-sea shipping.

We are pleased to support Carisbrooke Shipping in this European project, said Andreas Ufer, KfW IPEX-Bank board member.

With a length of 118.6m and width of 14.3m, the Labrax ships offer 329,700 cubic feet of cargo capacity while using significantly less propulsion power. Carisbrookes order brings the total Labrax series to 12 vessels, with 10 built for the Vertom Group.
