Unifeeder splits into two

Jesper Kristensen was chief executive of Unifeeder for 17 years.

Unifeeder has undergone significant structural changes, including the retirement of longtime CEO Jesper Kristensen in July. The company has been divided into two independent sister firms, each led by a separate CEO, with the world divided between them.

Martin Gaard Christiansen, the new CEO of the Aarhus-based branch, oversees Europe, the Americas, and Northern Africa. His counterpart, Ganesh Raj, manages the business in Asia from Dubai, handling operations east of the Suez Canal.

This decision was made to bring the business closer to its customers in Asia, allowing for faster decision-making and local management, especially in markets like Shanghai and India.

The restructuring follows a strategic shift by Dubai-based owner DP World, aiming for more autonomy in its business divisions.

Christiansen emphasizes that the decision to manage Asia from Dubai is not driven by a desire to centralize control but rather to adapt to the unique demands of the region. The Asian market has grown significantly through recent acquisitions, making this division a natural evolution.

Martin Gaard Christiansen is the top manager of the newly started western branch of Unifeeder.

Unifeeder A/S now operates 70 chartered vessels, while Unifeeder ISC, based in Dubai, manages 30, typically larger vessels due to longer routes.

Christiansen assures that this change does not represent a downgrade for Denmark or Unifeeder A/S.

The company remains ambitious, with significant growth potential in its regions, and the new structure allows for sharper focus and agility.
