The future, EU regulations and the challenges of carbon capture
This crucial topic for the shipping industry will dominate the Keynote Panel on the first day of the Propulsion and Future Fuels conference, taking place from 19-21 November at the Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg.
Speakers from the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), DNV, BIMCO and Zero Carbon Shipping will present the latest updates on carbon capture – a key element in the industry’s progress towards meeting global net zero targets.
The two-day conference will also tackle the issues around which fuel is likely to be dominant in the future for the shipping industry. Sessions will explore the latest developments in LNG, ammonia, methanol, liquefied hydrogen and wind propulsion.
One of the world’s largest shipping and container transportation companies, Hapag-Lloyd will lead a session looking at retrofit solutions, another vital component in the practical considerations for the decarbonisation of shipping.
Innovation is at the heart of the conference and the first day will conclude with the presentation of The Motorship Awards. This year’s shortlist includes a collaboration between Lloyd’s Register and Anemoi Marine to reduce emissions using wind-assisted propulsion, new intelligent speed routing for ships, introduced by ABB and a groundbreaking Scuffing sensor, developed by CMT, which detects sudden severe wear in a ship’s engine and aims to prevent fatal damage and long downtimes.
The long-established Propulsion and Future Fuels conference attracts delegates from around the world, giving them an opportunity not only to learn the latest data to benefit their businesses, but to network with others in the industry and debate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
