Shipping Technology receives approval
The certification institute LRQA (formerly part of Lloyd’s Register) has approved an emissions reporting module from the Dutch company Shipping Technology and issued an ISO certificate.
The technology calculates CO2 emissions from inland and coastal vessels, converting them into a clear, understandable unit.
Data collection (engines, fuel, boilers, etc.) and CO2 emissions calculations per ton-kilometer have been validated. Shipowners will soon be able to use Shipping Technology BRAIN for automated reporting.
The ISO 14083 standard ensures all companies in a transport chain calculate emissions consistently, allowing clear reporting of emissions for delivered products.
Shipping Technology developed an automated method to measure emissions in grams of CO2 per ton-kilometer, with data instantly available for customers and regulators.
“This is a big step,” says CTO Tom Boerema. The ST BRAIN hardware supports multiple functions—efficiency, safety, accident reconstruction—and provides real-time data for shipowners and insurers. Boerema notes it’s the only solution in Europe that offers immediate, validated emissions data.
The emissions reporting tool can help shipowners meet EU CSRD and ESG requirements while enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing compliance costs.
