New charter contract with Boskalis
The burnt-out car carrier “Fremantle Highway” is being taken to China for extensive repairs.

Friday Shipbrokers has chartered Boskalis’s heavy-lift vessel “Boka Vanguard” to transport the ship, a journey expected to take 55 days. Once in China, it will be restored and re-enter service next year under a new flag, meeting rising demand for Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs).
“Fremantle Highway,” which caught fire in the North Sea a year ago, was deemed a total loss after one crew member died. It was salvaged by Koole Contractors and later sold to China for restoration.
This project is a first for Friday Shipbrokers, who carefully chose the “Boka Vanguard” for its capabilities. Before departure, the carrier was submerged to allow the damaged ship to be loaded and secured. Only the car decks were affected by the fire, preserving the structural elements and enabling a cost-efficient refit rather than a costly newbuild.
