Reflections from the Maritime Frontline
Recent days have been a reminder that the maritime sector continues to operate in a complex and often uncertain environment. Vessels and the seafarers serving on them are once again navigating tensions across critical sea lanes, even as global trade and energy flows must continue.

Only a few years ago, the COVID pandemic was described as a “black swan” event that tested the resilience of global supply chains and the people who keep them moving. In different ways, the maritime community continues to face moments that remind us how much the world depends on the professionalism of those who serve at sea.
Across our managed fleet and global teams, women and men continue to work in demanding conditions, supporting the movement of energy, commodities and essential goods that sustain economies and communities around the world.
In this short video, voices from across our community share their reflections, from seafarers across ranks serving on board our vessels to colleagues ashore who support them every day.
We hear from seafarers currently on board, alongside Aprille Rose Acupinpin, whose journey from sea to shore now focuses on the welfare of seafarers and their families; Maneesh Pradhan, our Global Head of Crewing, who reflects on the resilience and professionalism demonstrated every day by our seagoing colleagues; and Shweta Krishna Sharma, whose transition from naval service to commercial shipping speaks to the diverse pathways through which talent enters the maritime profession.
As our Group CEO Jesper Kristensen reflects in the closing message of the video:
“Shipping often speaks about technology, trade and supply chains. But at the heart of this industry are the people who operate our vessels every day. If we want the next generation of talent to choose a life at sea, the wider world must do more to recognise the responsibility, skill and commitment that seafaring demands.”
The week of International Women’s Day also offers an opportunity to recognise the growing number of women building careers across maritime, on the bridge, in the engine room, on deck and ashore, and the contribution they make alongside their colleagues every day.
Shipping has always depended on teamwork, competence and trust. The reflections shared here are a reminder that the future of this sector will continue to be shaped by people from many backgrounds who choose to build their lives at sea.
To the women and men serving across the global maritime community, thank you for your professionalism, resilience and dedication.
We invite you to listen to their reflections from the maritime frontline.
