Remontowa launched new hybrid ferry
Remontowa Shipbuilding has launched a new hybrid-powered passenger and car ferry for Torghatten Nord AS with the project progressing smoothly and on schedule.

Nearly 80% of the work is complete, and harbour acceptance tests are set to begin in mid-September. The ferry is 63.65 meters long, 15.5 meters wide, and can carry 149 people and 50 cars. The contract for the new build was signed in December 2023, with design by The Norwegian Ship Design Company AS, supported by Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting. The ferry uses lightweight materials and low-loss solutions for energy efficiency. It features two azimuth thrusters powered by batteries or generators, with battery recharging from shore power during loading and unloading. Remontowa began collaborating with Torghatten Nord AS in 2009, delivering four LNG-powered ferries between 2012 and 2013. The new ferry is set to be delivered in early 2026 and will serve the Stornes–Bjørnerå route in Troms, taking under 12 minutes for each crossing.
