Ørsted cancels Cadeler contract for new wind installation vessel

Danish offshore specialist Cadeler has been notified by Ørsted that a long-term contract for one of its new wind farm installation vessels has been terminated.

The vessel was initially intended for the installation of turbine foundations at the “Hornsea Three” offshore wind farm, scheduled for 2026. It was also awarded a contract for the “Hornsea Four” project in April, with operations set to begin in 2027 and end in 2030. The contract for the ‘A-Class’ wind turbine installation unit was canceled after Ørsted decided to halt work on the Hornsea Four wind farm. The vessel, designed to transport up to six XXL monopile foundations per trip, can be converted to install up to seven 15 MW turbines or five turbines over 20 MW per round, reducing trip numbers. Cadeler confirmed it is entitled to compensation for the termination and is in talks with third parties to allocate the vessel to other projects.
