New alliance for efficient propulsion system maintenance
Loewe Marine, Movena Korea, and SGS have formed a new partnership to offer integrated repair and maintenance services for manoeuvring and propulsion systems.

Combined Expertise
Loewe Marine, based in Bremen, manufactures rudders and offers global repair services for rudders and steering gear. Movena Korea brings over 20 years of experience with Korean and Asian shipyards, shipping companies, and classification societies in inspection, repair, and certification. SGS, headquartered in Miami, provides underwater welding services through teams located across all continents. Together with Movena, SGS has already completed numerous drydock-free projects in recent years.
Integrated Solutions for Propulsion and Manoeuvring Technology
The partnership offers maritime customers specialised services for efficient propulsion and manoeuvring systems from a single source. Shipowners and operators will benefit immediately from the synergies created, which aim to reduce operating costs, especially in maintenance and repair.
The focus is on customised solutions to improve vessel efficiency, tailored to each client’s needs. Services include propeller retrofits, high-efficiency flap rudders, and advanced hull designs.
The joint offering covers optimised ship and propulsion design to meet future EEDI-3 and CII requirements, support for modification projects, damage analysis with repair strategies, and underwater services. A key element is project management during retrofits or repairs in drydock, ensuring seamless coordination of propeller, rudder, and steering gear systems—delivered from a single source for quality and efficiency.
Holistic Service Approach
By covering hull, propeller, rudder, and steering gear, the partners aim to reduce interface risks, leading to more efficient workflows, shorter project times, and better technical and economic results.
“Our long-standing cooperation with Loewe Marine and SGS allows us to deliver an even broader service,” says You-Seong Kim, Managing Director of Movena Korea. Carsten Löhmer, Managing Partner of Loewe Marine, adds: “This offering lets us better meet customer needs worldwide by tailoring propulsion systems and providing precise support in drydock or in water.”
Kevin Peters, Director Technical Sales at SGS, highlights the benefit for ship operators and insurers: “Our services offer a cost-effective alternative to drydockings or towage, cutting both time and expenses.”
