Maritime Companies in Funen Export DKK 13 Billion Annually
When discussing the key strengths of the business community in Funen, Denmark, the focus often falls on robotics, drones, and life sciences. However, a new report shows that the region’s long-established maritime sector also stands out as one of its strongest industrial clusters.

Maritime companies across the region Funen, Denmark and the surrounding islands export goods and services worth more than DKK 13 billion annually, generate combined revenues of DKK 16.3 billion, and support 3,002 jobs. These findings come from BlueTech Insights 2026, a newly released report by BlueTech Center, which maps the economic importance of the private maritime sector in the region.
According to Lars Ahrendtsen, CEO of BlueTech Center, the report is ultimately about the companies that create value, jobs, and exports from Funen every day.
“I believe we have every reason to be proud. Every week I meet companies that build, repair, advise, manufacture, service, and develop maritime solutions for customers around the world. They help put Funen on the global map every single day. We have companies in Funen and the islands that rank among the very best in the world within their respective fields, and that is a strength we should value, take pride in, and continue to build upon.”
The report covers 156 maritime business locations and paints a picture of an industry that combines strong maritime traditions with a new generation of innovative companies. A total of 69 companies have been established since 2010, while more than 70% of maritime businesses employ fewer than 15 people.
According to Ahrendtsen, the combination of experience and innovation is one of the sector’s greatest strengths.
“One of the factors that makes the maritime industry strong is the combination of tradition and renewal. We have companies that have been part of the maritime sector for generations, while at the same time we see new businesses emerging with a focus on future technologies and innovative solutions.”
The report also shows that the sector’s economic value largely remains within the region. More than 80% of employees both live and work in Funen and the surrounding islands.
For BlueTech Center, the report represents far more than a collection of statistics.
“It is not only the companies themselves that have reason to be proud. Funen does as well. The report demonstrates that the maritime industry is a key regional strength with significance for the entire area. When companies create thousands of jobs and export DKK 13 billion annually, they make a contribution to Funen and the islands that deserves both respect and recognition. At BlueTech Center, we are proud to support that development.”
The BlueTech Insights 2026 report highlights the maritime sector’s role as a major contributor to regional growth, employment, innovation, and international competitiveness across Funen and the surrounding islands.
