WISTA UK celebrates 50 years

WISTA UK marked its 50th anniversary with an event celebrating five decades of advancing diversity in the maritime industry. The celebration included a conference and evening reception attended by industry leaders and members.

Monica Kohli, WISTA UK President, opened the conference, with a keynote from IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez. The first session, “Nurturing Diverse Voices in Maritime Media,” highlighted the media’s role in elevating diverse profiles, including women, trans, and non-binary individuals.

The second session, “ESG, to or not to be?” focused on the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, stressing the need for transparent reporting. A presentation on decarbonisation by IMO and BP followed.

The final session, “Navigating Alternative Fuel Options,” addressed future fuels and the importance of global ESG regulations. ICS Secretary General Guy Platten closed the conference, praising WISTA UK’s efforts and discussing the need for more female seafarers.
