Ocean Network Express Moves Zealand Operations to Kalundborg
Ocean Network Express (ONE) has selected the Port of Kalundborg as the new base for its Zealand container operations, strengthening the port's position as a key logistics hub in Denmark. The move will take effect in October and is expected to significantly increase cargo volumes and terminal activity.
The agreement between ONE, the Port of Kalundborg, and APM Terminals brings the world’s sixth-largest container shipping line to the terminal. ONE becomes the second major global container carrier to establish operations in Kalundborg, further enhancing the port’s role in connecting Danish businesses with international markets.
The first vessel call is scheduled for 4 October, when the Penang Bridge arrives in Kalundborg. The service will provide direct connections to Rotterdam and Antwerp, two of Europe’s largest container ports and important gateways to global trade routes.
Under the new arrangement, ONE will operate a weekly feeder service linking Zealand-based customers to international supply chains through the terminal. The additional calls are expected to drive substantial growth in container throughput and support the port’s long-term expansion plans.
Port Director Bent Rasmussen described the agreement as an important milestone in Kalundborg’s ambition to become Zealand’s largest container terminal. He highlighted the benefits for regional businesses, which will gain improved access to global logistics networks through direct links to major European ports.
For ONE, the relocation supports its strategy of providing efficient and competitive logistics services. Dan Miura, Marketing and Commercial Director for ONE’s Europe and Africa region, said the move represents a strategic upgrade designed to create a stronger and more resilient logistics network in Denmark while improving service levels and operational flexibility for customers.
The agreement also reflects the ongoing investments made by the Port of Kalundborg and APM Terminals through the Green Zealand Gateway initiative. Recent developments include the electrification of container cranes, investments in electric terminal equipment, and operational improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing emissions.
According to APM Terminals Denmark CEO Mikael Gutman, ONE’s decision validates the investments made in productivity, sustainability, and terminal performance. The partners’ long-term ambition is to establish the Nordic region’s first CO₂-neutral container terminal while developing Kalundborg into Zealand’s leading container gateway.
The addition of ONE’s services is expected to further strengthen the port’s competitiveness and support growing demand for sustainable and efficient container logistics solutions in the Danish market.
