Highlights you missed from SMM 2024
Green shipping
The 31st SMM in Hamburg gathered the global maritime community to showcase green and digital shipping solutions. Over 2,200 exhibitors and 48,000 participants from 100+ countries focused on decarbonisation, digitalisation, recruitment, and maritime security.
Shipowners, shipyards, suppliers: Aiming for carbon neutrality together
Decarbonising shipping was the main theme, with exhibitors presenting alternative fuel engines, smart software, and retrofitting options. Shipowners and industry leaders explored investment strategies for carbon-neutral fleets.
Open conference format
Open-format conferences attracted 300+ speakers on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and maritime security. The conferences in the halls, which were freely accessible to all participants for the first time, proved to be a real crowd puller. In a total of 70 sessions, over 300 speakers gave practical insights on the open stages and discussed the pressing issues facing the industry.
Contact and exchange with the skilled workers of tomorrow was another focus at SMM 2024 – after all, the future of the industry depends crucially on it. With the two-day Maritime Career Market, the world’s leading trade fair once again offered a widely used platform for young talents, recruiters and universities.
Start-ups building a reputation
Another part of the fair fostering inspiring discoveries was Start-ups@SMM where young companies showcased their innovative ideas. One topic of special allure: Artificial Intelligence.
Lively discussions late into the evenings
The new digital SMM Networking Platform created a perfect environment for striking up conversations and establishing valuable new business contacts, not only virtually but also at many meeting points at the fair and during the well-attended Wine o’clock parties at the end of the fair days.
