Polish Navy selects Schottel
The Polish shipyard PGZ Stocznia Wojenna in Gdynia is constructing Miecznik-class frigates, with German manufacturer Schottel supplying the propulsion systems.

Schottel’s systems are designed for high quality, adaptability, and reliability. The TransverseThruster improves maneuverability and meets the demanding requirements of naval vessels. Each of the three frigates will feature a shock-capable STT 4 with 925 kW input power and a 2.0-meter propeller. The STTs include a complete functional unit with engine and frequency-controlled soft starter.
LeaCon Seal Monitoring System
Each STT incorporates Schottel’s LeaCon system, certified to prevent seawater contamination by operating fluids. Separate seals for seawater and gearbox sides collect any leakage in an intermediate chamber. LeaCon also monitors seal wear, enabling early detection to prevent unscheduled maintenance. The drives meet strict environmental standards.
