D. Oltmann orders four 10,000 TEU newbuilds in Korea
D. Oltmann Reederei is said to be behind four orders for container ships of 10,010 TEU each at the Korean shipyard HJ Shipbuilding & Construction. This was reported by industry service Alphaliner.

The orders were reportedly placed in two tranches in February and April. Delivery of the four vessels is scheduled for 2028, at two‑month intervals between April and October. According to the report, the ships will measure 289 m in length and 45.6 m in beam, representing the maximum size that HJ Shipbuilding & Construction can build at its Busan yard. Conventional propulsion systems with exhaust‑gas scrubbers are planned. By the editorial deadline, HANSA had not received a response to its enquiry.
For Oltmann, the order would mark a significant fleet expansion. According to Alphaliner, the company currently manages 14 container ships ranging from 3,700 to 10,010 TEU. The largest vessel, RDO Ace, was built at Yangzijiang in 2018, acquired by Navigare Capital Partners in 2023 and has been chartered to Ocean Network Express since 2021.
The existing fleet is said to be fully employed, operating for major liner companies including Maersk, Hapag‑Lloyd, ONE, ANL, OOCL and the Shipping Corporation of India. While no confirmed charter commitments for the newbuildings have yet been reported, Alphaliner considers it unlikely that a conservative owner such as Oltmann would order four vessels of this size purely on speculation. Potential charter candidates named include the Shipping Corporation of India and Israeli carrier ZIM, although their long‑term charter strategies could be affected by Hapag‑Lloyd’s planned takeover of ZIM.
