Wilson backs German start-up Tilla

Norwegian shipping giant Wilson, one of Europe’s largest short sea operators, is implementing software from Berlin-based start-up Tilla Technologies to manage crew changes on all 101 of its vessels starting this May.
The decision follows successful deployment of the platform by Stödig Ship Management, which manages part of Wilson’s crewing. According to Tilla, the platform has already delivered double-digit cost savings, increased productivity, and strong user satisfaction.
Wilson operates a fleet of mainly mini bulkers (1,500–8,500 DWT), transporting around 13 million tonnes of dry cargo annually and calling at over 10,000 ports. Efficient and flexible crew change management is vital to its operations across both large hubs and smaller European ports.
Tilla’s software automates voyage planning and crew scheduling, offering full visibility into costs and bookings. The system connects to key data sources, including flight and port information, and integrates with existing crewing systems. According to Wilson’s Head of Crewing, Bjørn Thore Seljelid, the tool will free up team resources to focus on core tasks.
“Tilla will simplify processes and give us the transparency and control we need to support our digitalisation efforts,” he said.
Founded in 2021, Tilla aims to bring digital efficiency to one of shipping’s least digitised but cost-heavy operations—crew change—with a scalable platform used by over 15 travel agencies worldwide.
