See Kongsberg’s new bulker design
Kongsberg has introduced a new bulker design aimed at helping shipowners meet environmental standards while using conventional fuels. This innovation responds to rising regulatory pressures and promises fuel savings of 40% to 50%.
“Our goal was to design a vessel that would be able to meet the projected regulations throughout its lifetime while utilising advanced energy-saving technologies.” says Oskar Levander, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Kongsberg.
Kongsberg, in collaboration with Deltamarin, developed a “super-efficient bulker.
This design incorporates three tiltable rotor sails and two suction wind sails, adapting to various wind conditions for optimal efficiency.
The new bulker design includes an air bubble curtain to reduce frictional resistance in the water, enhancing fuel efficiency. Sailing at reduced speeds further contributes to significant savings in fuel, emissions, and maintenance costs. Additionally, an intelligent energy management system optimizes overall performance.
