Schottel equips Poland’s new naval vessel “Ratownik”

The Polish shipyard PGZ Stocznia Wojenna is building the new rescue vessel “Ratownik” for the Polish Navy, with delivery planned for 2029. The German company Schottel is supplying the propulsion systems.

Designed to support rescue and underwater operations and protect critical maritime infrastructure, the vessel will feature advanced technologies, including submarine rescue systems, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV/AUV), and equipment for greater working depths than current units.

Schottel’s scope includes the main propulsion and maneuvering systems: two EcoPeller SRE 560 azimuthing units (2,650 kW each) that can rotate 180 degrees, eliminating the need for rudders. These provide high efficiency, dynamic positioning compatibility, and low vibration.

Additionally, Schottel will supply two STT 3 bow thrusters (900 kW each) for precise control and a retractable SRP 260 (880 kW) that serves as an auxiliary or emergency drive. All systems are built for extreme and icy conditions, using variable-speed motors and controllable pitch propellers for flexibility.

The vessel, valued at over 1 billion zloty (€230 million), will measure 96 meters long and 19 meters wide, with steel cutting scheduled for this year.
