Rickmers’ Windward Offshore completes first series of newbuilds
The Hamburg-based shipping joint venture Windward Offshore has taken delivery of the fourth – and, for the time being, final – vessel in a series of newbuilds for the offshore market.
Windward Offshore has taken delivery of Windward Hamburg, the fourth Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) in its fleet. The vessel follows the earlier deliveries of Windward Athens, Windward Paris, and Windward Munich, supporting the company’s ambition to serve offshore wind projects throughout construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
Founded in 2023, Windward Offshore is backed by SeaRenergy Offshore, Blue Star Group, Diana Shipping, and SeraVerse. In 2025, Japanese trading group Marubeni joined the company through a strategic investment and capital increase.
Built by VARD in Romania and Norway, the vessels are based on the shipyard’s 4-19 design. Measuring 87.5 metres in length and 19.5 metres in beam, they can accommodate up to 120 people on board.
Like its sister vessel Windward Munich, Windward Hamburg features a helideck, providing additional flexibility for personnel transfers to offshore wind installations. Other key features include a motion-compensated gangway with integrated lift, a motion-compensated crane, a height-adjustable boat landing system, and a battery-hybrid propulsion system prepared for future operation on green methanol.
Commenting on the delivery, Windward Offshore Managing Director Bastian Hagebeuker said the vessel marks an important milestone for the company, completing a fleet of four modern CSOVs designed to support the growing offshore wind sector.
With all four vessels now delivered or entering service, Windward Offshore has established a strong operational platform for future growth in the expanding offshore renewable energy market.
