Pres-Vac Launches Certified High-Velocity Valve for Methanol Venting on Compact Dual-Fuel Vessel
As alternative fuels like methanol and ammonia become more widely adopted across the maritime industry, the challenge of designing safe and compliant venting systems—especially on smaller vessels—has become increasingly critical. In response, Pres-Vac Engineering, part of G&O Maritime Group, has introduced a newly certified High Velocity Pressure/Vacuum Valve, tailored for short vent lines and dual-fuel applications. The solution is detailed in the newly released white paper: The Dual Fuel Venting System Requirement & Solution for Small Vessels, available now on Pres-Vac’s website.

Addressing Safety and Space Constraints at Sea
Methanol is classified as flammable, toxic, and part of Explosion Group IIA—posing significant risks if not properly managed. On compact vessels, venting systems are often positioned near accommodation areas and air intakes, requiring precise gas dispersion and high efflux velocity to maintain crew safety and regulatory compliance.
“This valve is a game-changer for smaller ships operating with methanol or ammonia fuel. It combines compact form with top-tier performance, and has been verified by classification societies to meet or exceed international standards,” says Jens Reimer, General Manager Sales & Head of Regulatory Affairs at Pres-Vac.
Certified to the Highest Standards
The valve is tested and approved under the latest standards, including:
IMO MSC.1/Circ.1621
- ISO 15364 & ISO 16852
- IMO 677
- ATEX non-spark compliance
It is also tested for Explosion Group IIB, offering a wider safety margin than the minimum requirement, and features dual-seal technology (metal and soft seal) for enhanced tightness, wear protection, and long-term reliability.
Built for Compliance, Designed for Longevity
The valve has been endurance burn tested using ethylene gas, and factory tests show minimal leakage rates. Methanol’s natural cleaning properties further support long-term operation with minimal service requirements, especially valuable on vessels with restricted access to equipment.
With its high velocity, minimal emission release, and virtually maintenance-free design, the new Pres-Vac valve offers shipowners a compliant and future-ready solution for dual-fuel operations in tight spaces.
