Port of Los Angeles sets new June record
The Port of Los Angeles handled 892,340 TEU in June—an 8% increase over last year and the highest June total in its 117-year history.

“Some importers are bringing forward Christmas cargo due to possible tariff hikes later this year,” said port chief Gene Seroka. July may mark the seasonal peak as retailers fulfill orders early amid trade uncertainty. The port closed its fiscal year on June 30 with 10.5 million TEU, topping 10 million for the third consecutive year, solidifying its position as the Western Hemisphere’s top container hub. In June, loaded imports rose 10% to 470,450 TEU; exports grew 3% to 126,144 TEU. Empty container volume climbed 7% to 295,746 TEU. First-half throughput totaled nearly 5 million TEU, up 5%.
Still, the strong numbers come amid economic uncertainty. While U.S. ports may see short-term growth in July, experts warn of declines as delayed tariffs take effect. President Trump postponed new tariffs until August 1 but threatened 30% levies on most EU and Mexican goods. “The situation is volatile,” said Jonathan Gold of the NRF. Retailers are stocking up ahead of looming tariffs. After a projected 2.1% gain in July (2.36 million TEU), analysts foresee drops of 10.4% to 21.3% from August to November.’’
