Conversion to new bow on Nordstraum gave 20% fuel savings!
The chemical tanker Nordstraum, owned by Utkilen in Bergen, has been retro-fitted with bulbous bow.

Among all possible conversion that can be made, this is one of the more extraordinary type and it is great to see that an owner like Utkilen looks at every possible thing to make their fleet even more environmental friendly.
This vessel is 13 years old and we could see when investigation this togehter with the owner that great savings could be made by designing and fit in a new forward hull form.
A great project for us at FKAB to take part in and even better when the Utkilen team now confirms the result after some time of sailing, testing and measuring in real life environment.
We have just completed the final testing and can confirm a saving of 20 % – 2,6T/day reduction of fuel. The vessel received a C on the CII rating in 2024, we expect that to change to an A rating in 2026 and maintaining a B rating until 2030. Eirik Gjerde, Newbuilding & Innovation Manager at Utkilen
Great and impressive figures.
Utkilen is one of the clients we work with that are forerunners on environmental thinking and are chasing low energy consuming & well performing vessels. This fits well in to the FKAB mindset, and we enjoy every minute we work together with You.
