1.What is the idea behind your start-up?
AmendTec is a start-up that focusses on bringing technology to digitize vessels. Receiving critical data from the operations of the vessel can be burdensome. However, AmendTec is using its technology to simplify this process.
2.Could you describe the core products or services your start-up offers to the maritime industry?
Currently, a fuel-monitoring system is available that transmits the data wirelessly to the bridge, with the wireless modules developed by AmendTec. This eliminates the installation of cables to retrieve the data from the engine room to analyse the data on the bridge and/or ashore. Clamp-on flow meters are used to reduce installation costs and time. With the retrieved data the complete CO2 Emissions and Real-time insights in Fuel Consumption is provided for the crew onboard and the operational staff ashore.
Besides that, the wireless modules form a new infrastructure for transmitting and receiving crucial data throughout the vessel. In the future, new modules/sensors can make use of this wireless infrastructure.
3. What is your start-up’s mission and vision in the maritime industry?
To ensure the future sustainability of the maritime industry, our approach involves using digitization technology to offer valuable insights that lead to cost and emissions reduction for vessel operators.
4. How does your start-up create and provide value to your maritime stakeholders?
“You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” Digitization technology can help the maritime industry with its responsibility of reducing emissions. By measuring the fuel consumption of a vessel, the operators will become aware of the emissions they produce. The software will provide complete CO2 emission reports for a complete voyage. Because of the wireless transmission of the data, the process of measuring and eventually reducing emissions and costs will become accessible for all vessel operators. The wireless modules and clamp-on sensors make long copper wires unnecessary and the installation time low. This will drastically reduce the costs of installing a fuel monitoring system. Also, the vessel will not be in port for a long time, which increases the possibility of operating time.
5. What specific problem or pain point does your start-up address in the maritime industry?
Compared to current available wired solutions, AmendTec is able to make this technology accessible for all vessel operators, due to the low installation time and the elimination of cables. This reduces costs drastically and will decrease the time that the vessel will be in ‘downtime’.
Another benefit of this solution is that a wireless infrastructure for transmitting data from different locations on the vessel to the bridge and ashore is ready for use for other crucial data than fuel consumption. The operators are future-proof for soon-to-come solutions from AmendTec.
6. How does your company differentiate itself from competitors in the maritime industry?
AmendTec is making digitization accessible to all vessel operators. The process is simplified and costs are reduced compared to competitors. Due to the wireless modules, the vessel will be future-proof when installing new sensors/actuators. No new cables need to be installed, as the wireless modules are plug and play.
7. How can your start-up contribute to a smarter maritime future?
The solution provided by AmendTec is making the maritime industry smarter. It offers insights into crucial operational data of vessels. The crew can make better decisions based on our system.
Onshore, there will be greater insights into emissions and total voyage costs. With the acquired data, they can begin planning to reduce fuel consumption and, consequently, lower their emissions.
Furthermore, the wireless solution makes the vessel future-proof for upcoming solutions.
8. How can your start-up contribute to a cleaner and/ or safer maritime future?
The solution aids the maritime industry in becoming cleaner by measuring emissions. This data enables vessel owners to gain a heightened awareness of their emissions. With the system, they can analyse whether their plans and actions to reduce fuel consumption have any effect and quantify the impact.
9. What is your start-up’s approach to sustainability and environmental responsibility in the maritime industry?
Our solution aims to ensure the sustainability of the maritime industry for the future. The measurement of vessel emissions and providing insights to vessel operators are crucial components of the process towards achieving a sustainable industry.
10. How do you anticipate the growth and potential of your start-up in the maritime industry in the coming years?
AmendTec foresees significant growth in the upcoming years with our current solution. As more authorities mandate vessel owners to report their emissions, it becomes imperative for accessible solutions to be available to all vessel owners for emission reporting.
Furthermore, we are steadfast in our development efforts to introduce additional data-driven solutions to the maritime industry.
11. Can you share any success stories or notable achievements your start-up has had so far in the maritime industry?
We were pleasantly surprised by the positive outcomes from our initial test of the wireless modules. These modules successfully transmitted data across a vessel measuring 95 meters in length, as demonstrated on an inland tanker. Based on the test data, there appears to be ample room for extending the distance; although, we have yet to carry out trials on a larger vessel, which is on our agenda in the near future.
Currently, the vessel is equipped with our solution for fuel consumption measurement and emissions tracking. The installation process took just one hour in this particular use case.
12. Why did you apply to be a Rising Stars and what do you expect of the Rising Stars Pavilion and Europort?
AmendTec aims to engage with the maritime industry to showcase that the digitization of their vessels is now more accessible than ever before. Additionally, this provides us with an opportunity to learn from the industry about their challenges in the realm of digitization.
