Guidelines for ships using alternative fuels
ClassNK releases 'Guidelines for ships using alternative fuels (Edition 3.0)' - adding safety requirements for hydrogen-fueled ships
ClassNK has released the “Guidelines for Ships Using Alternative Fuels (Edition 3.0)”, which now includes safety requirements for hydrogen-fueled ships in addition to those for methanol, ethanol, LPG, and ammonia.
These guidelines provide comprehensive safety measures for the design and operation of alternative-fueled ships, covering installation, controls, and safety devices to minimize risks to ships, seafarers, and the environment.
The new edition incorporates the IGF Code and adds specific requirements for hydrogen fuel, addressing its unique hazards like ignition and leakage risks.
As part of its transition support services, ClassNK continues to aid the adoption of alternative fuels by issuing such guidance.
The guidelines can be downloaded from ClassNK’s website after registration in the button below.
