Disney magic with Meyer Werft

Meyer Werft in Papenburg has secured a significant order from Disney, with the entertainment giant commissioning four new cruise ships. This order, the largest in the shipyard’s history, arrives at a crucial time as Meyer Werft faces financial challenges. The ships, to be delivered between 2027 and 2031, will expand Disney Cruise Line’s fleet to 13 vessels.

The order boosts Meyer’s portfolio to over €11 billion and offers a lifeline as the company grapples with a €2.8 billion financing gap. The federal and state governments are in ongoing negotiations to provide financial support.

In addition to the Disney order, Meyer Werft is converting the “Global Dream” into the “Disney Adventure” for delivery in 2025 and has a new order from Japan’s Oriental Land, set to enter service in 2029. The new Disney order could significantly improve Meyer Werft’s financial outlook and secure its future.
