Cosco has ordered 42 new bulk carriers valued at over RMB 14.3bn (US$2bn), with deliveries set for 2026-2027. This is the company’s largest shipbuilding and leasing deal since its transformation in 2016.
The vessels will be built by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry and CSSC Chengxi, including five 64,000-tonne, two 82,000-tonne, and thirty-five 80,000-tonne ships.
These bulkers, featuring eco-friendly designs, with some methanol-ready, will be leased to Cosco Shipping Bulk. Cosco’s fleet, which already includes over 140 ships, recently expanded with new container vessels.
