Bernhard Schulte Offshore takes over “Windea Carnot”
The shipping company Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BSO) has added the next special vessel to its fleet. The “Windea Carnot” was built at Ulstein Verft in Norway.

The ship is a so-called Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), intended for use in offshore wind farms. The “Windea Carnot” was christened on March 6. It is the third of a total of three sister ships built by Ulstein for BSO. The shipping company has been integrating the ships into its offshore fleet since the middle of last year. BSO now operates a total of six specialized vessels for the global offshore energy industry.
Managing Director Matthias Müller highlighted the strong prospects in the offshore market and emphasized the popularity of Ulstein’s design, valued for its reliability, flexibility, and innovative features. The Windea Carnot incorporates Ulstein’s TWIN X‑STERN solution, improving maneuverability, reducing vessel motions, and enhancing fuel efficiency. Its hybrid battery system is already prepared for future methanol use, enabling low‑emission operations suitable for both maintenance and construction activities in offshore wind farms.
The vessel provides single cabins for up to 90 offshore personnel and features a centrally positioned, height‑adjustable walk‑to‑work gangway and elevator tower to allow safe personnel and cargo transfers. Additional equipment includes a helideck for helicopters up to 8.6 tonnes, a 5‑ton 3D motion‑compensated crane for offshore operations, and optimized onboard logistics with generous storage space and step‑free access. A height‑adjustable boat‑landing system ensures safe, stepless transfer between the CSOV and crew transfer vessels-an important safety feature in offshore wind environments.
The vessel continues BSO’s tradition of naming its ships after notable scientists. Windea Carnot is named for physicist and engineer Nicolas Léonard Sadi Carnot, following sister ships Windea Curie and Windea Clausius.
