DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nFire at sea is a hot topic\, especially now with both the use of battery power for propulsion and with the carriage of batteries at sea. The emerging risk of a battery fire occurring is becoming an increasing concern for the maritime community. The potential danger which lithium-ion batteries can pose\, whether in battery rooms for propulsion\, inside electric vehicles or transported as standalone cargos\, including the risk of a battery fire if they are not handled\, stored\, or transported correctly\, is a very relevant hazard and even more so while at sea onboard ships. \nThe above challenges plus many others have considered in the recently published reports of DBI’s ELBAS (Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea) and the CARGOSAFE study (addressing how to develop new proposals to reduce the risk of fires on container ships) carried out by DBI.
