SUMMARY:Sea Japan 2024
DESCRIPTION:  \nEvery two years since 1994 when the event was born in Yokohama\, Japan’s shipbuilding and shipping industry gathers together at Sea Japan to showcase the very latest in marine technology and to meet and do business with their partners and suppliers from around the world. \nSince 1994\, Sea Japan has been held under various themes that match the trends of the time and industry needs. Sea Japan 2024\, its 15th edition will focus on clean energy and explore the various options for the industry. \nThe next challenge for the maritime industry is to decide upon the new energy sources that will allow the carbon neutral operation of vessels. Which of the clean energy sources\, such as hydrogen\, ammonia\, liquefied natural gas (LNG)\, and electricity\, will prove to be the right choice for the industry in the future? How will we work to improve efficiency and ensure safety for practical use in the future? Sea Japan 2024 will put this challenge in the spotlight. \nComprising of a large exhibition with over 580 exhibitors\, a high-level international conference\, technical seminars\, ship visits\, and networking events\, it ranks among the key maritime exhibitions held around the world. The focus is on advanced marine technology such as fuel efficiency\, environmental protection\, the use of IoT and the development of autonomous ship operations. \nA new addition to Sea Japan 2024 will be an offshore and port technology exhibition\, “Offshore & Port Tech 2024” as its parallel event. The new event will provide a platform for technology and information exchange between new ocean businesses and the maritime industry\, such as the blue economy\, the development of marine renewable energy such as offshore wind power generation\, and efforts for carbon-neutral ports which are becoming more active recently. \nSea Japan will provide you with the perfect opportunity to expand your business in Japan. SUMMARY:DSNAME - ESG reporting and new EU regulations for shipping
DESCRIPTION:  \nDuring this meeting we will look into ESG (Environmental\, Social and Governance) reporting for shipping companies and how operational data is becoming more and more important for company wide reporting about fuel consumption and emissions. \nFurthermore\, we will look into the regulations EU ETS implemented in 2024 and FuelEU Maritime that will come into force in 2025. We will look into the different perspectives and impact of these regulations and frameworks\, and touch upon strategies for compliance that could become relevant in the future for shipping companies. \n  \n17.00\nWelcome by Frederik Hammer Berthelsen\, Vessel Performance Specialist\, DFDS \nCo-organizers were Peter Blach\, projektchef\, Maskinmestrenes Forening and Valdemar Ehlers\, Technical Director\, Danish Maritime \n17.05\nOverview of ESG reporting and EU regulations by Aske Breining Nielsen\, Specialkonsulent\, Danish Shipping \n17.30\nImpact of reporting and regulation on a shipping company by Lina Barsøe\, Head of Decarbonization Pathway\, DFDS \nESG data\, especially about GHG emissions\, is becoming more and more important and necessary to track and report. The tracking is very important to build a strategy for the future of DFDS and to track if the initiatives are working. Reporting is becoming a bigger need due to increased regulation and stricter reporting measures. Furthermore\, customers and society are also asking for this data. \n18.00\nBreak \n18.30\nOperational cycles and an evidence-based assessment of compliance options by Amandine Godet\, PhD\, DTU\, George Panagakos\, Senior Researcher\, DTU\, and Michael Bruhn Barfoed\, Associate Professor\, DTU \nThe NICE project at DTU Management has worked on technical and operational approaches over the past three years to develop an indicator that can effectively reflect all attributes of a ship’s energy efficiency. Detailed technical and operational data for containerships have been analyzed to propose a weather-normalized indicator and apply it on standardized pre-determined operational cycles for different ship sizes. This presentation will concern the development of the cycles and how they can be used as a benchmarking tool for strengthening the regulatory framework of international shipping. Furthermore\, the presentation will broaden the unit of concern from a single ship to a fleet of ships and provide evidence-based insights into the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of compliance options for reducing GHG emissions in the shipping industry. \n19.15\nPresentation (title to be confirmed) by Gijsbert De Jong\, Nordic Area Manager Bureau Veritas \n19:50 \nWrap up by the organizers \n  \n Register for either the live or online option\n  \nLearn about DSNAME here. \nFor more events\, click here.

SUMMARY:DSNAME - Unmanned and Unstoppable: A Future of Autonomous Shipping
DESCRIPTION:  \nAs the wave of digitalisation and automation sweeps across the maritime sector\, the development of fully or partly autonomous ships is no longer a distant dream\, but a promising reality. This transformation presents not only exciting opportunities but also complex challenges concerning safety\, security\, sustainability\, and legal frameworks. \nAdvancements in technology will make the human-machine interface even more critical for the safe and efficient operation of autonomous ships (MASS). Although significant advances have taken place to develop MASS technologies\, very little research has been carried out towards analysing the human element\, the human-machine interface and seafarer training needs for working with concepts like Smart Ships\, Smart Ports and MASS. \nHowever\, the journey towards maritime autonomy isn’t solely about ship design\, human-machine interfaces\, and technology including connectivity. It’s also very much about legal issues. Therefore\, the event will place a particular emphasis on what goes on in IMO and EU and take stock of the development of the MASS Code in IMO. \n17:00 – 17:10\nOpening by organizers  by Jeppe Skovbakke Juhl\, BIMCO \n17:10 – 17:35\nThe Human Aspect and MASS by Dr. Jonathan Earthy\, Human Factors Coordinator\, Lloyd’s Register (LR) \nThe HUMANE (Human Maritime AutoNomy Enable) project investigated the broad range of human element issues regarding maritime digitalization\, technology insertion and technology disruption. \nThe findings of this project will be summarised and an ergonomics vision for maritime digitalisation will be discussed. \n17:35 – 18:00\nWhat goes on at IMO with regard to MASS by Erik I. SUMMARY:Offshore Wind Spatial Planning
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nThe Danish government has adopted an expansion of the Danish wind capacity with 4 GW by end of this decade. This is 4 times the existing capacity. In terms of regulatory approval\, what is needed to proceed into this venture? \nOffshore wind farms are large construction projects with many stakeholders including regulators\, users\, designers\, and marine life. This raises questions such as: \n• How is the outlook for the expansion of offshore wind?\n• How is navigational safety ensured?\n• What will future traffic patterns look like considering large offshore installations?\n• How is marine life affected/secured? \n17:00 – 17:15\nOpening by organizers\, by Frederik Sivholm Sommer\, OMT \n17:15 – 18:00\nPlanning considerations for energy infrastructure offshore\, by John Adams\, Senior Project Manager\, Energinet \nThe Danish Transmission Service Operator (TSO)\, Energinet\, is tasked with securing strategic environmental assessments of areas designated for offshore wind and the gathering of environmental baseline data for OFW developers. The presentation will focus on routing considerations when planning for export cables and the competing interests with other marine users. The ambitious plans for development of offshore wind to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will be presented and whether the maritime spatial plan can support in the attainment of these goals. \n18:00 – 18:30\nBreak + refreshments \n18:30 – 19:10\nSafety – Shipping corridors and safety procedures\, by Peter Dam\, Nautisk konsulent\, Sikre farvand \nThe DMA will during the presentation have a focus on the process of designating shipping corridors in Maritime Spatial Planning as the first step towards safety of navigation within areas designated for offshore wind farms. Through the maritime spatial planning process\, we allocate the most important shipping corridors used today\, so that shipping can continue to sail in the safest and most direct route through Danish waters. The DMA will also go through the normal safety procedure for a Formal Safety Assessment and other safety related issues in connection to offshore wind farms. \n19:10 – 19:45\nNavigational safety and risk assessment\, by Toke Koldborg Jensen\, Senior Chief Project Manager\, Risk\, Safety and Project Planning\, Ramboll \nRamboll has carried out several ship traffic analyses and risk assessments for offshore construction projects\, and the presentation will focus on risk assessments for offshore wind farms. The presentation will touch upon aspects such as HAZID workshops\, analysis of ship traffic data\, ship traffic and collision modelling\, and safety distances. Effects such as changes to ship traffic patterns will be described and related to the change in risk imposed by a wind farm as part of a navigational safety risk assessment. \n19:45 – 20:00\nClosure \n\n\n\n\n\nSign up\n\n\n\n\nSign up – online participation\nFor more information\, click here.

The potential danger which lithium-ion batteries can pose\, whether in battery rooms for propulsion\, inside electric vehicles or transported as standalone cargos\, including the risk of a battery fire if they are not handled\, stored\, or transported correctly\, is a very relevant hazard and even more so while at sea onboard ships. \nThe above challenges plus many others have considered in the recently published reports of DBI’s ELBAS (Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea) and the CARGOSAFE study (addressing how to develop new proposals to reduce the risk of fires on container ships) carried out by DBI. Regulators and class are also working on new guidance\, recommendation\, and regulations for best practices in the area\, such as the Lloyd’s Registers Rules for Ships . \nCome and hear about the conclusion and recommendations of ELBAS and CARGOSAFE\, how battery projects are handled by Class as well as hear latest developments in battery fire safety in maritime industry and gain insight into this challenging area. \n17:00 – 17:05\nWelcome and introduction by Alexander Bjørn Kleiman\, past Chairman – IDA Maritim & Sr. Project Manager – Maritime\, DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology \n17:05 – 17:30\nELBAS – Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea: New Technologies and Methods for Suppression\, Containment\, and Extinguishing of Battery Car Fires Onboard Ships by Alexander B. Kleiman\, Sr. Project Leder – Maritime\, DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology \nThe recently completed ELBAS project was conducted using advanced fire safety engineering combined with human element analysis and has increased awareness of the complexity of handling EV battery fires at sea. \nELBAS focused on identifying effective techniques and potential technologies and tools for handling such fires\, which are directly implementable and affordable in the short-term. \nThe results and conclusions from this intensive\, solution-oriented project will be presented\, and have contributed to the development of performance based holistic fire safety strategies for EV battery fires on Ro-ro ferries. \nThe DBI ELBASprojectwas supported by the Danish Maritime Fund. \n17:35 – 18:00\nCARGOSAFE by Anders V. Kristensen\, Sr. Project Leder – Maritime\, DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology \nPresentation of all the aspects of the CARGOSAFE safety study performed for EMSA\, following the Formal Safety Assessment approach\, including the results and perspective of the study. \n18:00 – 18:30\nBreak\, refreshments & networking \n18:30 – 19:10\nFire Safety – Batteries for Propulsion by Jacob Munk Plum\, Lead Surveyor\, Electrotechnical Systems\, Lloyd’s Register \nLloyd’s Register will give a brief overview of the current battery rules for ships\, and present how those have been applied in a real conversion project\, the ForSea ferry TYCHO BRAHE and the related discussions on fire safety. \n19:10 – 19:30\nQuestions & Answers and Closing by Alexander Bjørn Kleiman\, past Chairman – IDA Maritim \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up\n\n\n\n\nSign up – online participation\n\n\n\nFor more information\, click here.
