SUMMARY:Offshore Wind Spatial Planning
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nThe Danish government has adopted an expansion of the Danish wind capacity with 4 GW by end of this decade. This is 4 times the existing capacity. In terms of regulatory approval\, what is needed to proceed into this venture? \nOffshore wind farms are large construction projects with many stakeholders including regulators\, users\, designers\, and marine life. This raises questions such as: \n• How is the outlook for the expansion of offshore wind?\n• How is navigational safety ensured?\n• What will future traffic patterns look like considering large offshore installations?\n• How is marine life affected/secured? \n17:00 – 17:15\nOpening by organizers\, by Frederik Sivholm Sommer\, OMT \n17:15 – 18:00\nPlanning considerations for energy infrastructure offshore\, by John Adams\, Senior Project Manager\, Energinet \nThe Danish Transmission Service Operator (TSO)\, Energinet\, is tasked with securing strategic environmental assessments of areas designated for offshore wind and the gathering of environmental baseline data for OFW developers. The presentation will focus on routing considerations when planning for export cables and the competing interests with other marine users. The ambitious plans for development of offshore wind to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will be presented and whether the maritime spatial plan can support in the attainment of these goals. \n18:00 – 18:30\nBreak + refreshments \n18:30 – 19:10\nSafety – Shipping corridors and safety procedures\, by Peter Dam\, Nautisk konsulent\, Sikre farvand \nThe DMA will during the presentation have a focus on the process of designating shipping corridors in Maritime Spatial Planning as the first step towards safety of navigation within areas designated for offshore wind farms. Through the maritime spatial planning process\, we allocate the most important shipping corridors used today\, so that shipping can continue to sail in the safest and most direct route through Danish waters. The DMA will also go through the normal safety procedure for a Formal Safety Assessment and other safety related issues in connection to offshore wind farms. \n19:10 – 19:45\nNavigational safety and risk assessment\, by Toke Koldborg Jensen\, Senior Chief Project Manager\, Risk\, Safety and Project Planning\, Ramboll \nRamboll has carried out several ship traffic analyses and risk assessments for offshore construction projects\, and the presentation will focus on risk assessments for offshore wind farms. The presentation will touch upon aspects such as HAZID workshops\, analysis of ship traffic data\, ship traffic and collision modelling\, and safety distances. Effects such as changes to ship traffic patterns will be described and related to the change in risk imposed by a wind farm as part of a navigational safety risk assessment. \n19:45 – 20:00\nClosure \n\n\n\n\n\nSign up\n\n\n\n\nSign up – online participation\nFor more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:DSNAME event - FIRE!
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nFire at sea is a hot topic\, especially now with both the use of battery power for propulsion and with the carriage of batteries at sea. The emerging risk of a battery fire occurring is becoming an increasing concern for the maritime community. The potential danger which lithium-ion batteries can pose\, whether in battery rooms for propulsion\, inside electric vehicles or transported as standalone cargos\, including the risk of a battery fire if they are not handled\, stored\, or transported correctly\, is a very relevant hazard and even more so while at sea onboard ships. \nThe above challenges plus many others have considered in the recently published reports of DBI’s ELBAS (Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea) and the CARGOSAFE study (addressing how to develop new proposals to reduce the risk of fires on container ships) carried out by DBI. Regulators and class are also working on new guidance\, recommendation\, and regulations for best practices in the area\, such as the Lloyd’s Registers Rules for Ships . \nCome and hear about the conclusion and recommendations of ELBAS and CARGOSAFE\, how battery projects are handled by Class as well as hear latest developments in battery fire safety in maritime industry and gain insight into this challenging area. \n17:00 – 17:05\nWelcome and introduction by Alexander Bjørn Kleiman\, past Chairman – IDA Maritim & Sr. Project Manager – Maritime\, DBI – The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology \n17:05 – 17:30\nELBAS – Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea: New Technologies and Methods for Suppression\, Containment\, and Extinguishing of Battery Car Fires Onboard Ships by Alexander B. SUMMARY:Nor-Shipping 2023
DESCRIPTION:  \nNor-Shipping is at the centre of the oceans. This is where the maritime and ocean industries meet every two years – a natural hub for key decision makers from across the world to connect\, collaborate and do deals to unlock new business opportunity. This is your arena for ocean solutions. \nThe Nor-Shipping history \nNor-Shipping has been an activity-filled arena attracting key maritime industry players from across the world for almost 58 years. The presence of leading heads from the entire maritime value chain and press\, makes Nor Shipping one of the world’s most recognized meeting places for strategic deal making and networking. \nMany of the best business relationships begin outside traditional meeting rooms. Nor-Shipping provides an unbeatable arena for professional networking and socializing. \nThe predecessor to Nor-Shipping was the trade fair “Deck and Engine Room”\, which was organised for the first time in the early 1960s by Norwegian Industrial Fairs (now NOVA Spektrum) in cooperation with the magazine Skip. \nThe first two events were national and focused on Norwegian seafarers and their welfare. The potential for an international shipping exhibition in Norway was thought out and initiated by Norwegian shipowner and magazine publisher\, Mr Per Selvig. He reached out to Edvard Mowinckel-Larsen\, who was leading the Norwegian Industrial Fairs\, and proposed a broader and more international focus for the next maritime exhibition. \nWith the support of Selvig’s Norwegian Shipping journal\, the event was renamed to the first International Shipping Exhibition and was launched in Oslo during May 1965. \nA downturn in the maritime industry in the late 1960s caused a delay in organising the next exhibition and it was pushed back to late May 1968. The Nor-Shipping name that is a very well know brand today\, was first applied for the third international event that took place in 1971. Since then\, Nor-Shipping has been organised every two years. \nNor-Shipping today one of the world’s leading arenas – not just shipping\, but across ocean industries. It is where key policy and decision makers from across the world join to connect\, collaborate and to do business. \nThe 29th edition will take place from 6-9 June in 2023. \nFor visitors: Buy Ticket (novaspektrum.no) \nFor exhibitors: Exhibitor registration — Nor-Shipping 2023

SUMMARY:Vessel Performance Info Athens forum
DESCRIPTION:  \nToday we have lots of decarbonisation products\, tools and reporting schemes. But our ability to make better decisions to drive decarbonisation is still very limited\, whether we are a charterer\, shipping investor or owner\, technical manager\, superintendent or seafarer. \nAt our Vessel Performance Info Athens forum on February 23\, we’ll look at how charterers and shipping companies can get a better understanding of what actually drives decarbonisation – and also how technology providers can help provide this awareness. \nIt is still hard for charterers to understand which of the vessels available to them offer the least emissions for the best price; it is hard for shipowners to know what new ships to invest in; it is hard for technical managers to know what technologies to invest in\, and it is hard for superintendents and crew to know what to do. Shipping company chartering departments need to understand whether accepting a certain cargo and required voyage sped will push a vessel into the ‘D’ band of CII in its annual report. Technical departments need to understand what savings they might get from the range of options available to them. \nThere are so many decarbonisation choices\, including fuels\, technology changes\, routing and speed\, and the confusion over choices will only increase as more options are available. \nThis is about more than reporting – reporting does not directly help decision making. As a domestic example\, you may have a report of the energy efficiency of your dishwasher\, but this does not help you work out if you use less energy to wash the dishes by hand. We may be thinking more about this as energy prices rise – and it is an analogy for plenty of industrial questions such about washing tanks or using autopilots. \nConfirmed speakers: \n\n\nZoran Lajic\, Head of Fleet Performance\, Angelicoussis Group \n\n\nSotiris Spanos\, Commercial Operator\, Neptune Lines \n\n\nFrank Paleokrassas\, Head of Data Governance & Analytics\, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement \n\n\nTakis Varelas\, Director\, Danaos Research Center \n\n\nMarilena S. Apostolidou\, Performance & Compliance Manager\, Eurobulk \n\n\nDimitra Konstantinou\, Energy Efficiency and Performance Engineer\, Angelicoussis Group \n\n\nDimitris Papathanasiou\, Data Scientist\, Angelicoussis Group \n\n\nAndreas Brekke\, CEO\, Miros Mocean \n\n\nMichael Schmidt\, Head of ESG / Projects\, Copenhagen Commercial Platform \n\n\nSandith Thandasherry\, CEO\, Oceanix \n\n\nJuan Jose Gil\, CEO and Executive Director Singapore\, Aventra Group \n\n\nFor more info of the event: www.athens.vpoglobal.com \nFor more maritime events: www.maritime-professionals.com/eventsplan
